Lonnie

For those of you wondering about Lonnie...  She is in Provo at BYU.  She rooms with her cousin, Hannah McCulloch, and they are having a ball!  She has been over to Uncle Seth and Aunt Tina's for dinner...which she loved.  She goes to the temple every week and is slowly making a dent in my stack of women's endowments that need doing.  She has gone on several dates and spends a lot of time with Sisters Hunter, Savage, and Call, from her mission.  They have a group that goes out regularly for authentic Mexican food.

Her official homecoming is Sunday, October 18th at 12 noon in the Fountain Green 1st Ward chapel. She and I report to the High Council at 6 am.  It's going to be a very long day!  But I'm looking forward to hearing her report.  She hasn't decided whether she is going to bear her testimony in Spanish or Kriol.  I vote for Kriol.  You should hear her read from the Bible in Kriol!  It's AWESOME!!!

She is still very much in missionary mode and shares the gospel with everyone she comes in contact with.  This past weekend, it was the tech support gal in India.  :)  Way to go, Lonnie!!!

Charlie

Charlie is being transferred.  She has been called as a trainer and a Sister Training Leader.  She is so excited, as you will be able to tell from her post.  Enjoy

Hey Y'all,
So just to get to the point!! I am being Transferred, Training a new missionary and I am going to be a Sister Training leader!!
Super Crazy right!!!
Well this week has been super crazy!!
Well this week was a fun week of service!! We helped this older lady who had a fall this week as well! So she called us to help her out!! We got to help her out with preparing food! One of her friends daughter's is getting married so she was a little behind on food so she asked us. I was so grateful that we where able to help her out. I learned great tips towards cooking!! Some of the things she made I think I might just make for myself when I get home.
Well just to say it is super sad to say good bye to North Augusta, but I know that I am needed somewhere else!
Well this week so on Wednesday evening is when Sister Edgington and I found out that Elder Scott passed away! We found out from our  book of Mormon class! I was shocked when they told us!
Well this week went by super fast!! I can't believe we are in another transfer!! But great things will come our way!!
Well just to say I totally knew that President Dieter F. Uchtdorf was going to speak!! His talk was amazing in the General Womens meeting!!
I love what he said!!
God didn’t design us to be sad. He created us to have joy! So if we trust Him, He will help us to notice the good, bright, hopeful things of life. And sure enough, the world will become brighter. No, it doesn’t happen instantly, but honestly, how many good things do? …
Totally true! We are here to have joy and trust in him!!

Well next week I will let you know how things go!! Who is going to be the new sister I am going to be with!! I sure do love you guys!!
Sister CharLynn McCulloch

Kallie

It is so fun having two sister missionaries!  I really love P-days!  Here is Kallie's post for the week. For those of you who are wondering about her reference to being sick, Kallie has been having GI problems for the past few months.  She had an ultrasound and endoscopy last week so it was a rough one for her. We should know what we're dealing with some time this week.  She's a trooper, though, and trying very hard to stay positive.

Hey Y'all!

What a week full of adventure and new chances to improve the quality
to become a better missionary! Being a missionary in the South has its
perks!

Sunday night we went out with our recent concert and had  dinner at
her place, we had the real deal of Mexican food! Tres Leche cake for
dessert! We then went to our member dinner appoitment and had stuffed
pepper and  then went to our Bishops home. We had two dinner
appointments because it was Sister Buckner's Birthday. When the
members know its your birthday they go all out! Later that night At
the Bishops We watched two Mormon messages about temples, and Bishop
talked about Maria's next step is to go to the temple to do baptisms
for the dead.  Alan his son shared his experience and testimony of
going to the temple and Elizabeth  the daughter also shared how she
felt! It was amazing and it left her really excited to go to the
temple! Maria is planning on going Oct 16! We are so excited for her!!

Tuesday was a great day! We went and taught one of our Investigators
from the Kongo! When we finished teaching him he said "I want to make
you something" and ran to the kitchen and started making us food! He
made us popcorn from Africa and we ate alaco! It was AMAZING!! He said
afterwords "Since its your birthday next weekend I will make you a big
plate because I love you!" I felt so special!! We get to pick it up
today from him. I am really excited! I love the south!

Wednesday: During one of our appointments we were teaching a less
active member and then all of a sudden she fell asleep on us!
Literally ALSEEP!! it was awkward. We didn't know what to say so we
just randomly said "So, the Book of Mormon, its a good book right?"
And she woke up suddenly and said "oh yes, its a good book, sorry I
fell a sleep!" We started talking again about conference and she fell
asleep AGAIN!!! I couldn't believe it!

Thursday: We were able to set expectations with Tisha our other
investigator our and talk more about the word of wisdom! She found a
spark inside of her and immediately quit drinking and smoking.   She
said that she would have no problem living the word of wisdom, because
she wants to see God help her in her life.  She really wants to be
baptized and wants to make a change in her life so she decided that
she wants to be baptized October 17. She came to church again this
Sunday and loved it! We will be watching conference with her on Sunday
at the church and then the next weekend she will be baptized! We are
really excited for her progression in the Gospel!

Friday: We ended up staying home that day because I was sick after
being at the doctors all morning! My throat was hurting and I was all
drugged up from the anesthetics! It was pretty rough. But, I got the
rest that I needed and am hopefully on my way to recovery!

Saturday:  We did a couple phone lessons today, we were able to help
people strengthen there testimony and love of the gospel! We also
contacted s referral who seems pretty interested in learning!

It was a really good week! :D

Thought of the week:
never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person
to be Loved!!

Scripture of the week:
Alma 36: 3 And now, O my son Helaman, behold, thou art in thy youth,
and therefore, I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and
learn of me; for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God
shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their
afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day.

Keep strengthening your testimonies :)

Love always!

Faith is a choice

This week was pretty good!

Monday: Sister Buckner and I hung out at IKEA! It was my first time and well, wasn't as glamorous as everyone thinks it is, it is just like a regular furniture store! After pday we went and saw a few of our members and investigators! As we went to go see a less active member she wasn't there, but, her non member son was home and we were able to sit down and teach him, he was really excited and asked us to come back and teach more!! Yay!!! :)

Tuesday: Was another day of finding and teaching! We saw one of our investigators M_____ he is a trip! Oh my goodness! As we were teaching him he stopped us and said pointing to me "you look like you could be a teacher" then turned to my companion and said "you look like you would be a doctor!" It was very strange and random. We ended up passing over what he said and then kept on teaching him, but he kept interrupting asking about us and saying "I am coming to Utah when you go home then stealing you away and taking you to Africa!" It was AWKWARD! But, I have learned to embrace the Awkwardness! That night we had coordination and were able to discuss those we were working with, as I said "we have 2 investigators to be baptized on the 10th of October" the Primary president said "no that isn't going to work, because that Sunday on the 11th is the primary program and your not taking my time away, so, Bishop said "No, last time you had too many people speaking, (she was the only speaker) then he said, well then you took along time (she took 5 minutes) he then paused and said...well sacrament meeting is for ordinances, and talks are for fillers, ordinances are more important! It was the best!!!!! :) :)

It wasn't really that exciting of a week,  we did finding and had lots of cancelled appointments!

I have learned lots and lots of stuff lately in my studies! I wanted to share a little with y'all! I have focused a lot on the atonement and faith!  I leaned this week that:

Faith is a choice!  Because of the conflicts and challenges we face in life today, we need to be aware that faith is not a free gift given without thought, desire, or effort. The Savior said, ‘Come unto me’ (Matthew 11:28) and ‘Knock, and it shall be [given] you’ (Matthew 7:7). These are action verbs--come, knock. They are choices. So, it's simple, choose faith. Choose faith over doubt, choose faith over fear, choose faith over the unknown and the unseen, and choose faith over pessimism.

Harold B Lee said "Now, if you have made mistakes, make today the beginning of a change of your lives. Turn from the thing that you have been doing that is wrong. The most important of all the commandments of God is that one that you are having the most difficulty keeping today. If it is one of dishonesty, if it is one of unchastity, if it is one of falsifying, not telling the truth, today is the day for you to work on that until you have been able to conquer that weakness. … Put that aright and then you start on the next one that is most difficult for you to keep”

One thing that really stood out to me was in my studies today! I just love the atonement and love learning new stuff each day!!!

For all of you reading this, imagine life without our cellphone? Well, we all know that we would freak and most people will die! Also, what would life be without water? We wouldn't survive!! But the real question is...,what would life be like without the atonement? Just was much as we need water, we need the savior and the atonement! We better not and cannot take his atoning sacrifice for granted!

Quote of the week:“The teacher said, ‘Good morning, boys, we have come to conduct school.’ They yelled and made fun at the top of their voices. ‘Now, I want a good school, but I confess that I do not know how unless you help me. Suppose we have a few rules. You tell me, and I will write them on the blackboard. “One fellow yelled, ‘No stealing!’ Another yelled, ‘On time.’ Finally, ten rules appeared on the blackboard ‘Now,’ said the teacher, ‘a law is not good unless there is a penalty attached. What shall we do with one who breaks the rules?’

‘Beat him across the back ten times without his coat on,’ came the response from the class.

That is pretty severe, boys. Are you sure that you are ready to stand by it?’ Another yelled, ‘I second the motion,’ and the teacher said, ‘All right, we will live by them! Class, come to order!’

“In a day or so, ‘Big Tom’ found that his lunch had been stolen. The thief was located--a little hungry fellow, about ten years old. ‘We have found the thief and he must be punished according to your rule--ten stripes across the back. Jim, come up here!’ the teacher said.

“The little fellow, trembling, came up slowly with a big coat fastened up to his neck and pleaded, ‘Teacher, you can hit me as hard as you like, but please, don’t take my coat off!’

‘Take your coat off,’ the teacher said. ‘You helped make the rules!’

‘Oh, teacher, don’t make me!’ He began to unbutton, and what did the teacher see? The boy had no shirt on, and revealed a bony little crippled body.

‘How can I whip this child?’ he thought. ‘But I must, I must do something if I am to keep this school.’ Everything was quiet as death.

‘How come you aren’t wearing a shirt, Jim?’

He replied, ‘My father died and my mother is very poor. I have only one shirt and she is washing it today, and I wore my brother’s big coat to keep me warm.’

The teacher, with rod in hand, hesitated. Just then ‘Big Tom’ jumped to his feet and said, ‘Teacher, if you don’t object, I will take Jim’s licking for him.’

‘Very well, there is a certain law that one can become a substitute for another. Are you all agreed?’                 Off came Tom’s coat, and after five strokes the rod broke! The teacher bowed his head in his hands and thought, ‘How can I finish this awful task?’ Then he heard the class sobbing, and what did he see? Little Jim had reached up and caught Tom with both arms around his neck. ‘Tom, I’m sorry that I stole your lunch, but I was awful hungry. Tom, I will love you till I die for taking my licking for me! Yes, I will love you forever!’”

Comparing this to the Atonement, the love that Tom showed towards the little boy Jim, was very special! He loved him so much that even though he ate his food, he was still willing to be beaten for him. He sacrificed Jims pain for his own! The savior Sacrificed and delt with pain for us because he loves us unconditionally! I LOVE the savior and the love and sacrifice he has made for each of us!

Scripture of the week: 2 Nephi Chapter 31! :D

Truly was a good week!
Thanks for your prayers and love!! Have a blessed week!

Sister McCulloch!!

We went on splits

Hey y'all,
Well this week has been super good!!
Well Tuesday after we just got done with saying what we learned the mission calls us!!
So they want us to take our car in to get an oil change and get new tires!! So we go in thinking it is not going to take that long at all. But we were at pep boys for over 2 hours!! I was so bored! You can only walk around the store so many times before you get bored!!
But things went great! We where able to go back to north Augusta and finally eat around 1:30.

Well we truly had a great week!! bumped into people that the lord had ready for us to come!!
Wednesday
The bug people came!! I was so happy when they came and sprayed the inside of the house and the outside!! After that I got to go weeding!! Awww! I just love weeding. It felt so good to get the dirt between the fingers! Had amazing lessons!! Also Book of Mormon class was super good!! Love reading the book of Mormon!! Makes me so happy!!

Thursday
Well just to say the lord protects his missionaries!! We had gone to these apartments and there are sometimes we come at the wrong time!! But the people there around 7 where really drunk!! So glad that I could go in to our lesson and out of our lesson with no problem with the people outside drinking!! I never have walked so fast to the car after a lesson in my entire life before!!
We also got to have great lessons with those who haven't had the time to come to church in a long time!!

Friday
Weekly planning!! Wow we planned for week 6!! wow time has gone by super fast!! I can' t believe it!! It is super crazy!! But that is how things are!! Life goes by fast in a blink of an eye!! Well a lot of our plans didn't work so we where trying to find people to teach all over the place!!

Saturday
We were able to go on splits!! We went to a members daughter's house who isn't a member and her husband answered the door and told us we could come back on Saturday around 4! Funny part we didn't look that we where having a lesson with one of our progressing investigators at that time. So we decided to call members and go out in splits. It was super amazing!! I had so much fun!! My first time ever and I was able to do it here in North Augusta!!

Well of course one of the members took us out to eat after words at a Mexican place here. It was so good!!

Sunday was amazing! It was stake conference and they talked about the Sabbath!! I  just loved it. A member took us out to see it in the stake center!! I just love being there in person!! makes you really focus really hard!! The cool part was we where able to see a very less active and her husband and said that we could come back anytime. It made me so happy!!
I really had a great day on Sunday!!! Saw a lot of people!! Well I hoped you had a great day!!
We went to a members house and the little boy make a little me out of his blocks!! It was super fun!! Then he made a little him!!

Thought for the week:
John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

I know that as we search the scriptures we will be able to know what the lord has in store for us and that he will help us in our life and help us reach that goal!!!

Well have a great day!! I sure do love you!!
Have the best day of your entire life!!

Who's afraid of BUGS?????

Charlie is afraid of bugs.  I'll admit when I saw the size of her cockroaches, I snickered a little.  After dealing with Texas size cockroaches in Houston that flew and felt like you'd stepped on an egg at night in the dark on the way to the bathroom, I'm not too impressed with these South Carolina ones. Everything's bigger in Texas definitely applies to the bugs.  I am glad that they are getting an exterminator out.  Bugs, no matter the size, are disgusting!

Here's Charlie's post for the week:

Well this week was very interesting!! We washed our car, waxed it( Zone conference)!!
So it was pretty good!!!
Zone Conference!! Wow that was good!! I had super fun!! The sad thing is they almost forgot about us. We almost didn't' sing in the meeting!!
But Elder Godwin( The District leader/ Piano player) really wanted to find out because he didn't want all of our practicing to go to a waste.
Well I really enjoyed it!! When we practiced the song I didn't have a hard time singing it. But when it got to that moment when we where singing I lost it just a little in the beginning!! The song we chose to sing was I know my Redeemer lives. I thought about my dad so much!! I know he was there with me at that zone conference and will never leave me.

Well this week we had exchanges this week!! Funny thing is that I actually got to go into the other area!! We helped someone pull of wall paper!! I loved it!! I could do that all day long!!

The pretty sad thing this week is that we had our little missionary movie night. So we popped a lot of pop corn and we only had 3 people come.
We watch meet the Mormons!! It was really fun to do!!

Well Saturday!! That was a pretty good day. Except when we bumped into drunk people at the elders apartments!! That was so interesting!!  One of the members was there; she had been drinking also, but she told the men that they can not be to close to these girls when they have been drinking!
But we left as soon as possible that we could leave. We went over to see one Miss______. She totally saved us!! She was the best!! She was happy that we could get away from them that fast!!

Well Sunday!! I taught Preach My Gospel class!! Looked at it that morning!! So the funny thing is that we did a lot of role plays during that time. It went so well!! I used some of the stuff that we were taught from our Zone Training!! It totally worked!!
I really enjoyed this week.

The bugs!!!
Well Monday I was getting ready for bed. Walked into my room and there is a cockroach on the wall. I almost screamed. I went and got a swifter and killed it. I just hate bugs..
Also Sunday!! ( yesterday) There was a huge cockroach in my bathroom!! I went and got the swifter again and killed that bug!!
The Souths ( our landlords) Told us that they are coming on Wednesday to come and spray inside and outside. I am so happy!!

Well Thought for the week!!

Helaman 5:30
And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul

I just how the holy ghost can't yell at us. That we have to be ready to hear him with his still small whisper!!

Well I love you!! Thanks for all you do!! You're the best!!!
Have the best day of your entire life!!
I sure do love you!!

Kallie's trial run for Halloween

Kallie sent me a picture of her portrayal of a lion for Activity Days.  I thought she looked adorable. Her cute little face reminded me of when she was a little girl.  It sounds like she had an eventful week.
Here is her post:

Hello Everyone!!!

This week was just amazing and amazing things happened!!! Maria was baptized!!! It was great! She has and my companion and I have been stressed all week. Satan defiantly knows when good things are going to happen because he tries everything in his power to stop good things from happening.

Monday: Was a day of service and finding. We had several appointments lined up and they all fell through so we were left trying to figure out what to do and who to see but God has his plans in line and knew where we needed to be and when. We met a referral named Jakeisha and was able to teach the restoration with her and she said she would be baptized when she knew the church was true. not if, but when. :)

Tuesday: P-Day! Today we ended up spending our day in Concord painting. It was adventurous! We loved it That night we had coordination and was able to plan Marias baptism a little more! :)

Wednesday: It poured rain almost all day! We were able to see a less active who is starting to come back to church and she introduced us to her sister who Is a non member a couple weeks ago and she wanted us to come back today and also to teach her daughter So we sat down and taught them both the restoration and they accepted baptismal dates. The spirit was so strong in there home and they are truly excited to start making more covenants with God :)

Thursday: Today it poured even harder than it did on Wednesday. We were driving through buckets and buckets of water being poured on us as we were driving. We had several members have there home struck by lightening! It was so scary and the thunder was SOOOO loud!! We were all safe though!

Friday: We did a bunch of service today for this lady named Ashley. She calls us her Mormon Friends. She is adorable! We are trying to start and develop a relationship with her first before starting to push religion on her.

Saturday: MARIA WAS BAPTIZED!!! I had to dress up as a Lion for an Activity Day thing for  girls aged 8-12 in the stakeSaturday afternoon. The theme was Wizard of Oz. It was really strange walking out from church clothes to being a lion. I didn't like any minute of it.

Sunday: Was great! But, Maria didn't get confirmed!!! She has things come up and wasn't able to make it, we were so sad, but its okay, she will come next week!! :D we will be meeting with her a lot this week to keep her on the straight and narrow!!

Scripture of the week:
Mosiah 23:21 :)
Thought of the week: "Selective obedience brings selective blessings."

Love you all!

The two left in the field....

North Carolina and South Carolina

Here's Kallie's post for the week:

Hello!!

This week was full of so much excitement!! We have Maria who is being
baptized this week! A little background on the excitement though, the
ward I am in now, hasn't had a baptism since last November so everyone
is tickled pink and really excited about this baptism!! Literally
jumping off the walls! ;) in relief society we stood up and said that
we were having a baptism this Saturday and would love for them to
join! Everyone gasped and was really surprised that it was really
happening! We don't know how to express our excitement!! I love seeing
the light of Christ change people, because it has definitely changed
her. I love the Savior SO MUCH! I can't express the joy I feel as I
help others come unto Christ and receive the restored gospel! It truly
is the best calling in the world!!

This week we have been able to engage ourselves in lots of service! I
LOVE service!! Being able to let others see what we do, they love when
we come! We had an experience last week on exchanges. There was this
one lady who lives down the street from us! So, we went by and we saw
her, she was happy to see us but as I asked if we could do any service
for her she immediately said no and started to get into another
conversation, but then I just automatically started walking towards
the back of her house and said "well, if you were to have us help what
would we do!" so she showed us and then we just stared helping, even
while being in our skirts. Then she said that she didn't like us being
in our skirts and would rather we be in shorts, so we said "okay, we
will come back!" and we did! This week we were able to do lots of work
for her and help her out in her creek! It was so much fun and watching
her smile she said "thank you for coming over" It is the best feeling
ever when you know that the people you serve truly do appreciate the
work and service we give them even if they don't like it our accept it
at first! You just have to be persistent and help them see that it is
what we do! :)

It truly is great to be able to represent the Lord and be able to see
the people change, and witness it first hand! The calling to be a
missionary is so sacred and special!  This week I have been able to
foucs a lot on my purpose. After giving a sacrament talk last week
about prayer and missionary work I have really tried to foucs on my
purpose this week. I have learned a lot, I learned recently that we
are called and set apart by God, called by God and trust by God to
bring forth his Children to the fold of the gospel. People try to make
it seem like it is harder than it really is. I will admit that before
my mission I didn't really like sharing the gospel and thought that if
they don't get to hear the gospel than it would be there fault for not
finding it for themselves. But, that is the complete opposite. There
are so many people who are looking for the gospel but don't know where
to find it. That is where we as missionaries come in and help them see
the joy that comes  from missionary work.

Thought of the Week:

"You may have found that change is hard. But know you can do it. You
may wonder why you are not believed when you decide to change from a
life of disobedience to one of integrity and compliance to truth.
Recognize that it takes time to build a reputation that overcomes the
effects of past deliberate decisions to deceive and to take advantage
of others--but it is worth it."

Scripture of the Week:

In Luke 5:4–11, the Savior taught Peter a valuable lesson on faith.
After teaching a group of people on the shore of the Sea of Galilee,
the Savior invited Peter to “launch out into the deep, and let down
[his] nets for a draught.” Peter explained that he had unsuccessfully
fished in the same area all night, but he faithfully replied,
“Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” As a result of his
faithful obedience, he gathered enough fish to break his net and
threaten to sink two boats.Sometimes the Lord asks us to do things
that seem illogical or even impossible. But when we trust in Him and
act in faith, He will bless us accordingly.

It has defiantly been a great week! Full of miracles and blessings!
Thank you all for your continual prayers and support! I sure love
ya'll!

Sister Kallie McCulloch

Here's Charlies' for the week:
Well Hey Y'all,
Well This week has been pretty fun!!
Well it rained of course!! Gotta love that. I was a little nervous because it was on Saturday and I didn't want it to rain out on the Cougar game!! Which I am so excited to hear that they won!!!
Well we practiced a lot this week with our song coming up for Friday!!
Well we did some tracking this week!! Trying to find some new people to see!!
Well we got 2 new investigators!! Woot woot!!! Super excited about that!!
One lives right by the church!! And the other one lives close to where we live. Super cool week!! Well book of mormon class was great!! We are getting in the King Noah Chapters!! But sad because we have exchanges this week and I won't be able to read them.
Cool thing this week!! We went to see a way less active member!! We came at the right time. Super cool!! She told us that she had been thinking about coming back to the church. But haven't had the time yet!!
I felt really good inside and was super glad I followed the spirit because after we saw her for a couple of minutes she told us that they were leaving to head somewhere. I was super   shocked. It was super cool!!

Well Sunday of course was the best!! Our Testimony meeting was so powerful!! You could really tell that the spirit was there in that meeting!!
Well after church was a members baptism!! Awww it was so powerful. She had both her grandparents there. ( both from utah) Also The governor's brother's son's daughter was the one who got baptized on sunday!!
Well of course we had our preach my gospel class!! I got to play an investigator and pretend I didn't' know anything about the gospel!! It is hard at sometimes!! But it was fun to make the youth think about what to say!!

Well this week looks like it is going to be a fun week!! Zone Training meetings, Zone Conference( Which the car is cleaned, waxed and ready to be looked at!!), then we are teaching the cottles as well!! Can't wait!!! This week is going to be super fun!!

Quote for the week:
Ether 12:6
And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.

I just love how we can have such strong faith in our life. And we may have trials but with our little of faith it can become so strong!!

Well I love you so much!! Thanks for all you do!! I pray for each one of you guys!!
Have the best day of   Your entire life!!
